Physics becomes manageable
when it begins to make sense

Physics is not simply a collection of equations to memorise. It is a way of understanding how the world behaves: how forces produce motion, how energy is transferred, how fields act across space, how waves carry information and how mathematical models describe physical reality.

Many students know individual formulas but are uncertain about which principle to use, why it applies, and how to connect it to the information in a question. This is particularly noticeable when examination questions present a familiar idea in an unfamiliar setting.

My online Physics tuition addresses that problem directly. Lessons are structured around understanding, clear reasoning and purposeful practice. Students learn to interpret diagrams, identify the governing principles, organise their working and explain their conclusions with precision.

I support students who are finding Physics difficult, as well as high-achieving students preparing for top grades, competitive university courses, entrance examinations and Olympiads. Each programme is adapted to the student’s curriculum, present level and longer-term goals.

“The aim is not merely to obtain the correct answer, but to understand the chain of reasoning that makes the answer inevitable.”

A Rigorous, Personal Approach

How I teach Physics online

Every lesson has a clear purpose. I identify what the student understands, locate the point at which their reasoning breaks down and then rebuild the topic through explanation, questioning and carefully selected problems.

01 · Understand
Concept before calculation
Equations are introduced as relationships between physical quantities, not isolated rules. Students learn what each quantity represents, what changes it and what remains constant.
02 · Apply
Guided problem solving
I model the reasoning behind a solution, then gradually transfer responsibility to the student through questioning, prompts and increasingly independent practice.
03 · Communicate
Precise scientific writing
Students learn to present complete working, use correct units, interpret evidence and write explanations that answer the exact demand of the question.
04 · Examine
Exam-board technique
Past-paper questions are used strategically to identify patterns, command words, mark-scheme expectations and the mistakes that repeatedly cost marks.
05 · Reflect
Self-correction
Students are encouraged to diagnose their own errors and explain how their method should change. This develops independence rather than reliance on the tutor.
06 · Progress
A structured path forward
Lessons respond to immediate needs while remaining part of a coherent programme, with topics revisited and combined as the student’s understanding develops.

The Online Learning Process

Focused, interactive lessons
with no travel required

Online tuition allows us to work directly on questions, diagrams, graphs and mathematical reasoning in real time. The technology supports the teaching; it does not replace thoughtful explanation or individual attention.

01
Initial discussion
We discuss the student’s curriculum, current performance, areas of concern and academic goals.
02
Targeted planning
I identify priorities and build a programme around conceptual gaps, current schoolwork and upcoming assessments.
03
Live tuition
Lessons combine explanation, questioning, worked examples and independent problem solving on a shared digital workspace.
04
Review and progress
Errors and misconceptions inform the next stage of teaching so that progress remains deliberate and cumulative.
Why Choose Phi Tuition

Physics taught with the depth
the subject deserves

I have taught Physics for more than three decades and worked as a researcher within the CERN ATLAS Collaboration. This combination of classroom experience and advanced subject knowledge allows me to explain difficult ideas accurately while remaining attentive to how individual students learn.

My role is not to complete questions on behalf of the student. It is to help the student develop the understanding, habits and confidence required to solve them independently. That includes learning when to draw a diagram, how to choose a model, how to check whether an answer is physically reasonable and how to communicate a conclusion clearly.

For ambitious students, lessons extend beyond routine examination questions into unfamiliar and multi-stage problems. For students who have lost confidence, we slow down, repair the foundations and create a sequence of achievable steps. In both cases, the teaching remains rigorous and respectful.

Advanced subject expertise
PhD in high-energy Physics from UCL, CERN research experience and a long record of teaching Physics at school and university level.
Teaching tailored to the individual
The programme responds to the student’s specification, present understanding, learning habits and academic ambitions.
Preparation for meaningful progress
Lessons develop subject knowledge, mathematical fluency, problem-solving discipline and exam performance together.
Available internationally
Live online teaching for students in the UK, Europe, the Gulf, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and other locations worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Online Physics tuition:
what parents and students ask

Which Physics levels do you teach?
I teach GCSE and iGCSE Physics, A-Level Physics, IB Physics at SL and HL, advanced high-school programmes, university modules, entrance examinations and Olympiad preparation. The suitability of tuition depends on the student’s precise course and needs, which we can discuss during an initial consultation.
How do online Physics lessons work?
Lessons take place live online using video, a shared digital whiteboard and relevant questions or resources. We can work through diagrams, calculations, graphs and written explanations together in real time. The format is interactive: the student is expected to reason, write and explain rather than simply watch.
Do you teach students outside the United Kingdom?
Yes. Phi Tuition is UK-based and teaches students internationally, including families in Europe, the Gulf, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Lesson times are agreed with the student’s time zone in mind.
Can you help a student who has lost confidence in Physics?
Yes. Loss of confidence often follows unresolved gaps in understanding rather than lack of ability. I identify the point at which the subject became uncertain, rebuild the foundations and introduce more demanding questions gradually as the student’s control improves.
Do you also teach high-achieving students?
Yes. I work with students aiming for the highest grades, selective university courses, entrance assessments, interviews and Physics Olympiads. Lessons can move beyond routine syllabus questions into unfamiliar problems that require deeper reasoning.
Which examination boards do you cover?
I support the major UK and international specifications, including AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, Eduqas/WJEC, Cambridge International and the IB Diploma. I also work with students following American programmes, including AP Physics.
Can lessons focus on examination technique?
Yes, but examination technique is most effective when built on sound understanding. We analyse command words, mark allocations, practical questions, written explanations and common errors while ensuring that the student understands the underlying Physics.
Can you help with Physics mathematics?
Yes. Lessons can address equation rearrangement, proportional reasoning, graphs, trigonometry, vectors, logarithms, calculus and other mathematical tools required by the student’s course. These skills are taught within their physical context.
Do you offer private and small-group tuition?
Private tuition is available for students who need a fully individual programme. Small-group options may also be available for suitably matched students. Current fees and formats are explained in the Phi Tuition Fees Guide.
How do we begin?
Book an initial consultation so that we can discuss the student’s curriculum, present level, specific difficulties and objectives. I will then advise whether I can help and what form of tuition would be most appropriate.
